Skype Phone is released
Skype service help its 246 million users to make free Internet calls to other skype user via VoIP. Now joining with mobile phone group 3 , Skype wants to give its service for its user on the move by launching Skype Mobile handset. The Skype Mobile Handset allows its user to make free Internet calls to another Skype user while on the move.Beside make VoIP calls, the 3 Skypephone also capable to send/receive Skype instant messages.
Skype expect to sell “several hundred thousand” units Skype phone on the Q4 2007 worldwide and millions in the next two years.Frank Sixt, finance director of 3-owner Hutchison Whampoa, said : “We are optimistic that if you look at one or two years, (we will sell) millions rather than hundreds of thousands, but in the fourth quarter (2007) we are looking at several hundred thousand worldwide.” . For now, the skypephone is launched in nine countries and other countries is under consideration. The Skype phone release date is set to November 2 with $102.6 price.
“Skype is now truly mobile. This new handset lets you make free mobile Skype calls when you are on the move to other Skype users all over the world,” said Michael van Swaaij the Skype acting CEO.
