GPS Module for iPhone is in the Works
We know that iPhone is not equipped with built-in GPS receiver. And there are Navizon, a software that works by triangulating signals from Wi-Fi access points and cellular towers as well as using data based on a collaborative database. But when we need more accurate result, we do need a real GPS hardware module which we know is not available inside iPhone.Worry no more. A GPS Module for iPhone is already available in prototype and expected to be available in the market in February.
The not-so-small GPS module has festures as follows:
Channels: 16
Update Rate: 1 sample / second
Acquisition Time: Hot: 4 Seconds, Cold: 45 seconds, Indoor: A long time
Serial Output: 1 Serial, 1 USB
Position Accuracy : 2.5m
Protocol Support: NMEA 0183 ver 2.3
Iphone Software: Requires Jail Broken Phone (tested on firmware version 1.1.2).
Software will be open source/community based
